F-Number Testing Overview
The F-Number system, developed by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), is the international standard for measuring concrete floor flatness (FF) and levelness (FL). It provides a statistical analysis of the floor's elevation characteristics, helping to determine quality and performance.
FF (Flatness): Measures how smooth the floor is over short distances (about 12 inches). A higher FF number means a flatter surface with fewer bumps—critical in environments using precision machinery or robotics.
FL (Levelness): Measures how much the floor slopes over longer distances (about 10 feet). A higher FL number means the floor is more level, which is vital in large spaces like warehouses and distribution centers.
Our F-Number Testing & Reporting Process
At Xcel Concrete Floor Flatness Testing Inc, we provide our clients a detailed and reliable assessment of concrete floor flatness (FF) and levelness (FL) — essential for determining if a concrete floor meets project specifications.
Our Equipment
We use the Face® Companies Dipstick® Floor Profiler, a highly accurate, ASTM E1155-compliant instrument designed for measuring FF and FL values. Known for its precision to 0.001 inch, it is the industry standard for high-tolerance flooring projects.
How It Works
1. The Dipstick is aligned along a test line and placed on the floor.
2. It measures elevation differences at 12-inch intervals.
3. The operator walks it forward capturing a sequence of precise data points.
4. Data is then uploaded into analysis software to calculate FF and FL numbers.
What You Get
Our comprehensive F-Number report includes:
F-Number Summary of project details and findings.
Test Surface Description: Project location, type of concrete floor, size and construction details.
Specification Compliance Check: Confirms if FF/FL results conform to project requirements.
Combined Test Section: A breakdown of how the floor performs as a whole.
Individual FF/FL Readings: For each test run identifying variations
Overall FF/FL Results: Statistical averages for the floor measured.
Local Minimum: Identifies areas where FF or FL values fall below specified limits.
Measurement Locations: Map or diagram of test runs or where readings were taken.
Graphs: Visual representation of each test run.
Why Choose Us
With decades of experience in concrete construction, we deliver trusted F-Number measurement reports, ensuring your floors meet the highest standards of flatness and levelness. Higher F-Numbers indicate a flatter, more level surface, giving you assurance that your concrete floor performs exactly as required for both functionality and structural integrity.
